Frequently asked questions.

Does the UAE allow dual citizenship?

No — Emiratis automatically lose their UAE citizenship if they acquire another nationality. However, under 2021 law changes, foreign investors and elite professionals can be nominated for UAE citizenship without renouncing their original nationality.

Only foreign women married to Emirati men can apply, and typically only after 7–10 years of marriage plus renunciation of foreign citizenship. Foreign husbands are not permitted.

From 2021 onwards, selected foreign investors, specialists, and talent may receive Emirati citizenship without having to give up their birth nationality. This is strictly by nomination from government or royal offices.

The UAE levies no personal income or inheritance taxes. If you retain another nationality and live or earn abroad, you may owe taxes based on that country’s tax rules. Double taxation treaties may apply — consult a tax advisor.
